Terbutaline + Bromhexine + Guaiphenesin Tablets

Mechanism

Terbutaline relaxes airway muscles (bronchodilation). Bromhexine breaks down thick mucus (mucolytic). Guaiphenesin increases fluid secretion in airways (expectorant). Together, they ease breathing and clear phlegm.

Pharmacokinetics

• Absorption: Terbutaline is well absorbed orally (partial first-pass metabolism); Bromhexine is rapidly absorbed but has low bioavailability (~20%); Guaiphenesin is rapidly absorbed with onset ~30 minutes.
• Distribution: Terbutaline shows moderate plasma protein binding; Bromhexine distributes widely with high lung affinity; Guaiphenesin distributes quickly but transiently.
• Metabolism: Terbutaline undergoes hepatic conjugation; Bromhexine is metabolized in the liver to Ambroxol (active metabolite); Guaiphenesin is metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites.
• Elimination: Terbutaline and Guaiphenesin are excreted renally; Bromhexine is eliminated mainly via renal excretion of metabolites.
• Half-life: Terbutaline ~3–4 hours; Bromhexine ~12 hours (terminal 13–40 hrs); Guaiphenesin ~1 hour.

• Hypersensitivity to any component

Interaction

• Other antifolate drugs (additive toxicity)
