Saxagliptin inhibits DPP-4 enzyme, prolonging incretin activity, which increases insulin release and decreases glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Rapid after oral administration
  • Metabolism: Hepatic via CYP3A4/5
  • Elimination: Renal excretion
  • Half-life: Approximately 2.5 hours (active metabolite ~3 hours)

Warning and Precautions

  • Monitor renal function regularly
  • Discontinue if pancreatitis is suspected
  • Use with caution in hepatic impairment

Dosage

As directed by the Physician.
