Mechanism

Lithium modulates neurotransmitter activity, stabilizes neuronal membranes, and influences second messenger systems such as inositol monophosphate. It reduces abnormal excitability in neuronal circuits, thereby stabilizing mood.

Distribution: Widely distributed, does not bind to plasma proteins.
