Strength
  • 0.5 mg
  • 1 mg
Packing Size
  • 10 Tablets

Mechanism

Entecavir inhibits HBV DNA polymerase by competing with natural substrates. It blocks reverse transcription, DNA replication, and transcription in the viral replication cycle, leading to suppression of HBV replication.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Rapidly absorbed after oral administration; peak plasma concentration in 0.5–1.5 hours.
  • Bioavailability: ~100% when taken on an empty stomach.
  • Distribution: Plasma protein binding ~13%; widely distributed in tissues.
  • Metabolism: Minimal hepatic metabolism.
  • Excretion: Primarily excreted unchanged in urine.
  • Half-life: ~128–149 hours (intracellular triphosphate), supporting once‑daily dosing.

Side Effects

  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Elevated liver enzymes (rare)

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity to Entecavir
  • Severe renal impairment (dose adjustment required)

Interaction

  • Other nephrotoxic drugs (increase risk of renal impairment)
  • Co-administration with lamivudine may reduce efficacy in resistant strains

Warning and Precautions

  • Monitor liver function and HBV DNA levels regularly
  • Risk of lactic acidosis and hepatomegaly with steatosis
  • Use under medical supervision only

Dosage

As directed by the Physician.
