Clotrimazole Vaginal Tablets contain Clotrimazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent used for the treatment of vaginal fungal infections caused mainly by Candida species. It helps relieve symptoms such as itching, burning, irritation, soreness, and abnormal vaginal discharge associated with fungal infections.
Clotrimazole works by damaging the fungal cell membrane, thereby stopping the growth of fungi and eliminating the infection.

Mechanism

Clotrimazole inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This leads to increased membrane permeability, leakage of cellular contents, and death of fungal cells.

  • Distribution: Localized action in vaginal tissues.
  • Metabolism: Limited hepatic metabolism due to low systemic absorption.
