Clarithromycin

Tablet

Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping bacterial growth. Clarithromycin is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and as part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori-related ulcers.

Mechanism

Clarithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis. This prevents bacterial growth and replication, making it bacteriostatic in nature.
