Centchroman (Ormeloxifene) is a non-steroidal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used as a weekly oral contraceptive and in the treatment of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. It provides effective contraception without hormonal side effects.

Mechanism

Centchroman acts as a selective estrogen receptor modulator. It has anti-estrogenic effects on the uterus and breast, and weak estrogenic effects on bones. It prevents implantation of the fertilized ovum and regulates endometrial proliferation, providing contraceptive and therapeutic benefits.
