Mechanism

Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, while clavulanic acid prevents beta-lactamase enzyme degradation, ensuring effectiveness against resistant bacteria.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Well absorbed orally.
  • Metabolism:Amoxicillin undergoes minimal metabolism; clavulanic acid is partially metabolized in the liver.
  • Excretion: Primarily via urine.
  • Half-life: ~1–1.5 hours.
