Mechanism

Thiamine is converted into active thiamine-containing coenzymes that participate in carbohydrate metabolism and energy production. It is particularly important for normal cellular energy metabolism and nervous-system function.
Riboflavin forms part of the coenzymes FAD and FMN. These participate in oxidation-reduction reactions involved in energy metabolism and various cellular processes.
Vitamin B6 is converted into active coenzyme forms, principally pyridoxal-5'-phosphate. It participates in numerous enzymatic reactions, particularly those involving amino-acid metabolism, neurotransmitter synthesis and haemoglobin metabolism.
Niacinamide is a precursor of NAD and NADP, coenzymes required for numerous oxidation-reduction reactions. These compounds participate in energy metabolism and cellular biosynthetic processes.
Folic acid participates in folate-dependent one-carbon transfer reactions required for nucleotide synthesis and normal cell division. Folate metabolism is also involved in normal red blood cell formation.
Vitamin B12 acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in DNA synthesis and fatty-acid/amino-acid metabolism. It also contributes to normal red blood cell formation and nervous-system function.
Calcium is an essential mineral involved in normal muscle contraction, neurotransmission, blood-clotting processes and maintenance of bones and teeth.
Zinc functions as a cofactor for numerous enzymes and contributes to normal DNA and protein synthesis, immune function, cell division and protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Copper is an essential trace element that acts as a cofactor for several enzymes involved in energy metabolism, iron transport, connective-tissue formation and antioxidant defence.
