Silymarin with Antioxidants Tablets

Tablet

This combination provides synergistic hepatoprotection and nutritional support. Silymarin stabilizes liver cell membranes and promotes protein synthesis. Added antioxidants (Vitamins, minerals, amino acids) enhance detoxification, reduce oxidative stress, and support overall cellular health.

Mechanism

Silymarin acts as a potent antioxidant, stabilizing hepatocyte membranes and enhancing protein synthesis. N-Acetyl Cysteine replenishes glutathione reserves. L-Glutathione and L-Carnitine reduce oxidative stress and support cellular energy. Vitamins and minerals provide additional antioxidant and metabolic support.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Moderate oral absorption; bioavailability varies with formulation
  • Distribution: Concentrated in liver tissue; moderate plasma protein binding
  • Metabolism: Hepatic metabolism via conjugation (glucuronidation and sulfation)
  • Elimination: Primarily biliary excretion; minor renal excretion
  • Half-life: ≈ 6 hours

Side Effects

  • Abdominal bloating
  • Diarrhea
  • Flatulence
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and stomach upset

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity to milk thistle (*Silybum marianum*) or related plants
  • Pregnancy and lactation — use cautiously, limited safety data
  • Severe hepatic impairment — not recommended without medical supervision
  • Children — limited clinical data, use only under physician guidance

Interaction

  • May alter metabolism of drugs via CYP450 enzymes (e.g., statins, antidepressants)
  • Potential interaction with hepatotoxic drugs (e.g., methotrexate, acetaminophen)
  • Use cautiously with anticoagulants — possible additive effect
  • Alcohol may reduce hepatoprotective efficacy

Warning and Precautions

  • Monitor liver function during therapy
  • Use as adjunct therapy, not replacement for medical treatment
  • Consult physician before long-term use
