Mechanism

Sodium Picosulphate
Acts as a stimulant laxative by increasing colonic peristalsis and promoting water accumulation in the bowel, facilitating stool passage.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption: Minimally absorbed; reaches the colon largely unchanged.
Metabolism: Converted by colonic bacteria into the active metabolite (BHPM).
Distribution: Negligible systemic exposure.
Elimination: Primarily excreted in feces; a small absorbed portion is excreted in urine.
Onset of Action: Usually 6–12 hours after oral administration.
