POTASSIUM CITRATE + MAGNESIUM CITRATE + PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE

Syrup

This syrup is a combination of urinary alkalizers and a vitamin formulated for the management and prevention of kidney stones. Potassium Citrate alkalinizes urine and increases urinary citrate levels, thereby preventing the formation and aggregation of calcium oxalate stones. Magnesium Citrate helps reduce oxalate absorption and inhibits stone formation. Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) reduces oxalate production, further lowering the risk of stone formation. The formulation helps maintain optimal urinary pH, reduces recurrence of stones, and provides symptomatic relief from urinary discomfort.

Mechanism

Potassium Citrate
Alkalinizes urine and increases citrate levels, inhibiting crystal formation and growth.
Magnesium Citrate
Binds oxalate in the intestine and reduces urinary stone formation.
Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6)
Reduces endogenous oxalate production, lowering risk of calcium oxalate stones.

Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Vomiting

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Oral absorption; varies with GI status .
  • Distribution: Potassium → intracellular fluid; Magnesium → bone/muscle; Pyridoxine → tissues, CNS .
  • Metabolism: Pyridoxine → converted to pyridoxal phosphate
  • Excretion: Potassium & Magnesium → renal; Pyridoxine → urine
  • Half‑life: Potassium/Magnesium → hours; Pyridoxine ~15–20 days

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity to any component
  • Severe renal impairment
  • Hyperkalemia

Dosage

  • As directed by the physician.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

  • Potassium → interacts with ACE inhibitors, ARBs, potassium‑sparing diuretics (risk of hyperkalemia).
  • Magnesium → interacts with tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones (reduces absorption).
  • Pyridoxine → interacts with levodopa (reduces efficacy unless combined with carbidopa).
