Oseltamivir Capsules IP 75 mg contain Oseltamivir, an antiviral medicine belonging to the class of neuraminidase inhibitors. It is used in the management of influenza caused by susceptible influenza viruses, in accordance with approved prescribing information. Oseltamivir acts against influenza A and influenza B viruses and is most beneficial when antiviral treatment is initiated as early as clinically appropriate after the onset of symptoms.

Mechanism

Oseltamivir is converted in the body to its active metabolite, which inhibits the neuraminidase enzyme of influenza viruses. Neuraminidase plays an important role in the release and spread of newly formed influenza virus particles from infected cells. By inhibiting this enzyme, Oseltamivir interferes with the release and spread of influenza viruses within the body, thereby helping limit viral propagation.

Distribution: Widely distributed; converted to active metabolite.
Metabolism: Hepatic conversion to oseltamivir carboxylate.
Excretion: Eliminated mainly via kidneys in urine.
