Omeprazole 20 mg & Domperidone 10 mg

Capsule

Omeprazole 20 mg and Domperidone 10 mg Capsules contain a combination of Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, and Domperidone, a gastrointestinal prokinetic and antiemetic agent. Omeprazole reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K+-ATPase proton pump in gastric parietal cells. Domperidone primarily acts as a peripheral dopamine D2-receptor antagonist and enhances gastrointestinal motility while promoting gastric emptying. The combination is intended for use only for the indication(s) for which the specific fixed-dose combination has been approved/licensed by the applicable regulatory authority. Omeprazole is provided as enteric-coated granules to protect the active ingredient from degradation by gastric acid and facilitate release in the intestinal environment.

Mechanism

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase proton pump in gastric parietal cells. Following activation in the acidic environment of the parietal-cell canaliculi, omeprazole inhibits the final step of gastric acid secretion. This results in a reduction in both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. Omeprazole is acid-labile. The enteric coating protects the drug from degradation in the acidic stomach environment and allows release after passage into the intestine, where the formulation can be absorbed. Domperidone is a peripheral dopamine D₂-receptor antagonist. It facilitates gastrointestinal motility and gastric emptying and can reduce nausea and vomiting through its peripheral antiemetic activity.
