Mechanism

Fexofenadine Hydrochloride
Selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors, preventing the effects of histamine responsible for allergic symptoms.

Pharmacokinetics

  • Absorption: Rapid oral absorption; peak plasma ~2 hours.
  • Distribution: Minimal CNS penetration → low sedation.
  • Metabolism: Limited hepatic metabolism; mainly excreted unchanged.
  • Elimination: Primarily fecal excretion.
  • Half-life:~14 hours → once or twice daily dosing.

  • Fatigue (rare)

Contraindication

  • Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine or any component

DRUG INTERACTIONS

  • Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium: May reduce absorption
  • Fruit juices (grapefruit, orange, apple): May decrease effectiveness
